Director's Description
The Oklahoma Adult Congenital Heart (OACH) Center at St. Francis in Tulsa, Oklahoma, stands as the state's only comprehensive center dedicated to providing lifelong, specialized care for adults born with congenital heart defects. Thanks to remarkable advances in pediatric cardiology and surgery, most individuals with congenital heart disease now survive well into adulthood, often requiring ongoing monitoring and management to address evolving complications, prevent acquired heart conditions, and optimize quality of life.
Our program offers extensive, multidisciplinary care for the full spectrum of adult congenital heart conditions, treating everything from simpler defects to the most complex anatomies. We manage a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to:
Atrial septal defect (ASD)
Ventricular septal defect (VSD)
Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)
Coarctation of the aorta
Bicuspid aortic valve
Tetralogy of Fallot
Transposition of the great arteries
Double outlet right ventricle
Double chambered right ventricle
Ebstein's anomaly
Pulmonary stenosis or atresia
Truncus arteriosus
Single ventricle defects (including those palliated with Fontan circulation)
Atrioventricular canal defects
Aortic anomalies and related conditions
Pulmonary artery sling
Our expert team provides a full array of advanced services tailored to the unique needs of ACHD patients. This includes interventional cardiology and structural interventions (such as catheter-based repairs and device closures), electrophysiology for managing arrhythmias, advanced heart failure evaluation and treatment, and state-of-the-art imaging with cardiac CT and MRI for precise diagnosis and planning.
We emphasize collaborative, multidisciplinary care, bringing together ACHD cardiologists, interventionalists, electrophysiologists, heart failure specialists, cardiac surgeons, imaging experts, and other subspecialists to deliver coordinated treatment for even the most complex cases.
A key focus of our program is supporting women with congenital heart disease through every stage of family planning and pregnancy. We offer specialized pre-pregnancy counseling to assess risks and optimize health, comprehensive care during pregnancy with close monitoring to minimize complications, and postpartum follow-up. Our team collaborates closely with high-risk maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists and obstetricians to ensure safe, evidence-based management for both mother and baby.
As Oklahoma's exclusive ACHD center, we are committed to serving patients statewide with compassionate, cutting-edge care that draws inspiration from leading national programs while prioritizing accessibility and personalized support. Whether you're transitioning from pediatric care, managing long-term effects of prior repairs, or facing new challenges, our program provides the expertise and resources you need for a healthier future.
