As an adult thriving with congenital heart disease (CHD), I wanted to create a unique fundraiser to benefit the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA). I was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a condition that affects the structure of the heart. After two open heart surgeries, at 29 I had my pulmonary valve implanted using a non-invasive method. The difference was 6 weeks recovery vs 24 hours in the hospital. Many of us CHD patients who were born in the 80s and earlier weren’t expected to thrive in adulthood. As I approach my third replacement this summer in good health, I can look forward to another quick trip to the cath lab and hopefully even more mileage out of my new valve.
The important mission of ACHA is to improve and extend the lives of the millions born with heart defects through education, advocacy, and the promotion of research. This organization provides a fantastic network for all congenital heart warriors. So, if you love Serefina jewelry, please visit my Etsy store and check out the heart collection I put together. Each piece is for sale at at least 50% off of retail, and all proceeds will go to ACHA.
*Note that the sale is expected to go for a month or until I sell out of most of the styles.
