Director's Description

PATCH is conveniently located in a pediatric cardiology clinic housed within a larger medical center offering comprehensive adult cardiac care. This allows us to provide a seamless transition from pediatric to adult medical care and draw on expertise of providers specializing in both congenital and acquired heart disease. Cardiologists from both departments work closely together to provide the best care possible to our patients.

We serve as the primary center for complex congenital heart disease care and congenital cardiac surgery for Providence and are the only adult congenital heart disease (AHCD) program in the Inland Northwest, with several satellite clinics across the region. We provide access to full consultative care in all sub-specialties of medicine and surgery.

We work closely with our colleagues in maternal fetal medicine to provide care to pregnant patients with all types of heart disease, offer quarterly multidisciplinary clinics in advanced heart failure/transplant and pulmonary hypertension (attended by specialists in those areas, plus palliative care and social work), provide teen and young adult transition clinics, and work closely with psychiatry/psychology to co-host patient support groups and ensure mental health services are available for all - we even offer in-office and virtual counseling.

In addition to our six ACHD-boarded cardiologists and two congenital cardiac surgeons (plus other surgeons with expertise in aorta, arrhythmia, and robotic surgery), we have an ACHD team that includes an ACHD PA-C, ACHD Nurse Coordinator, Social Worker, and ACHD MA. Four pediatric cardiologists, two pediatric advanced practice providers, an EP nurse, and a pediatric cardiology nurse round out our extended team.

We have a formal transition program for the maturing adolescent with congenital heart disease, participate in multicenter research, and hold educational seminars for patients/families, nurses, and local and regional providers.

We provide 24/7 care for ACHD patients and are involved in the management of our patients undergoing cardiac and non-cardiac procedures and surgeries. We are also building a telehealth network we call ePATCH.

Finally, we have been nationally recognized as an ACHA ACHD Accredited Comprehensive Care Center, a mark of distinction for ACHD programs that is endorsed by the major cardiology societies.

We look forward to working with you and can be reached at 509-474-6707 for consultations, referrals, or general questions about our program.
