Director's Description

In order to serve the needs of our local community, we opened the GHS ACHD Clinic in 2011. We are passionate about providing excellent care to our patients and facilitating in the often complex coordination of care they require. The program provides multidisciplinary management that includes the expertise of adult and pediatric cardiologists, pulmonary hypertension doctors, & electrophysiologists. The program offers on-site cardiac CT imaging, MRI, Holter monitoring, exercise stress testing, echocardiography, radiology, pacemaker interrogation, and laboratory evaluation. As part of the GHS Heart and Vascular Institute, patients also have access to surgery, catheterization or electrophysiologic studies when they are indicated. Taking full advantage of the broad GHS network, we also are able to collaborate care of our patients amongst primary care doctors, high-risk OB/GYN, hepatologist, dentists, and surgeons. We have had over 250 deliveries of high risk pregnant ACHD patients since inception. The GHS ACHD program is focused on empowering our patients to understand their heart disease and face the challenges of living with CHD. We help facilitate the transition of adolescents from pediatric into adult care in a manner that is safe and without interruption. Our referrals for complex congenital surgeries or interventions predominately go to 3 congenital heart care centers in SC/NC/GA. We have established excellent ongoing communication with these institutions. Looking forward, we have obtained philanthropic funding for regional educational outreach. We have applied for grants to expand patient-led advocacy and obtain social work support. We have also establised collaborations with the residency/medical school to begin research projects. One of the most exciting recent development is the establishment of a medical legal partnership with South Carolina legal aid in 2016 to address the psychosocial stressors and affect my patients overall health and well-being. We appreciate your interest in our program and look forward to serving our community for many years to come.
