Lobby Day 2010
More than 100 dedicated patients, caregivers and medical professionals, representing 28 states, united in one voice, asking their lawmakers to fund the provisions outlined in the Congenital Heart Futures Act.
On April 22nd, ACHA advocates led the way with their tremendous efforts, to make Lobby Day 2010 a success.
ACHA joined forces with the Children's Heart Foundation and Mended Little Hearts to host this event. Participants were able to bring the need for increased funding for life-long research and improved CHD Surveillance to over 130 legislators. The response was overwhelming. Our advocates reported that over 80% of the legislators visited expressed their support for congenital heart defect surveillance and research.
Whether it was the affirmation from a lawmaker indicating his or her support, or a hug from a fellow advocate at the end of the day, connections were established laying the groundwork for the movement to change the landscape of congenital heart defects.
Ongoing Advocacy Efforts
Advocacy is about developing lasting relationships with your legislators. It is a year-round project. In the coming months, ACHA will encourage you to get involved in many activities including writing your legislators, visiting your law makers while they are in district, and participating in town hall meetings.
Your story, your connection with congenital heart defects, is the most powerful tool you have for moving legislators into action.
Many voices with one message has already proven to make a difference. Thank you for your continued efforts to change the landscape for those dealing with congenital heart defects.
It is our job to ask Congress to provide the funds to turn their promises into actions. Only then will we see the benefits of the Congenital Heart Futures Act. Thank you for joining us as we ask our legislators to improve and prolong the lives of congenital heart patients by increasing CHD research and health surveillance.
