"The annual number of congenital heart disease hospitalizations among adults increased more quickly and consistently from 1998 through 2010 than pediatric hospitalizations."

That's just one finding in a research letter published online this morning in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), "The Changing Demographics of Congenital Heart Disease Hospitalizations in the United States, 1998 Through 2010," by a group of authors that includes ACHA Medical Advisory Board Chair Michael J. Landzberg, MD.

Sue Fernandes, an ACHA professional member and member of the Research Committee, recently published her findings from a survey of US pediatric cardiologists surrounding referrals and transition of adult congenital patients. The American College of Cardiology (ACC) offers a summary of the findings and the abstract to the study, published in the Journal of American College of Cardiology, is also available.

Dr. Barbara Mulder, an International Advisor for ACHA’s MAB, is a study author of an article titled "Surgery in Adults with Congenital Heart Disease" published in the October 25 issue of Circulation. The Doctor'sChannel.com has produced an informative video explaining some of the study’s key findings regarding reoperation and gender differences. Please click here to view the video.
