My name is Karla; I am 28 years old and was born with Tetralogy of Fallot. I was a “blue baby,” and had my first open heart surgery at 9 months old. I was blessed with two boys, who are now 5 and 2, before needing my second open heart surgery in June 2012 for a pulmonary valve replacement.
Parenting with TOF is a physical challenge. But it’s also the reason I feel I have done so well during my recovery. I’m very grateful for my sons, friends, and my great team of cardiologists that put me in touch with the ACHA. I love the feeling of community here. It’s helpful to know I’m not the only one whose heart is “funky.” Best of health to everyone.
